Link Building is an extremely important area of SEO, but it can be time consuming and difficult to find link sources. Neil M Hancock highlights 6 super simple backlink building techniques to get your in-house link building campaign off the ground...
Charities and Schools
Links from .gov and .sch sites are worth more than links from .com or .co.uk. Do you regular donate to a local charity or hospice? Are you closely linked to local schools and educational centres? If so, ask them if you can get a link from their ‘Donors’ lists. If not, offer your services to a local charity, possible give away a prize to the next charity ball, or even sponsor a local event in exchange for a sponsors website link
Build a Blog
Blogs are an excellent form of link building when updated with interesting and link worthy content. People love lists, create some ‘common myths about…’, ‘top 10’, ‘how to…’ articles, these style articles are easy to digest and can be read in any order and over a period of time, this means people do not need to digest the whole article in one go they can bookmark it and come back when they are ready.
Get Links from Local Organisations
Get your company included on local organisations lists. If you are a member of a Chamber of Commerce or a popular local business directory then make sure you are getting your link. These can be beneficial towards your local search results and they might even bring some referring traffic too
Well Respected Directory Submissions
While many directories are losing their importance, however there are still a few well respected directories, worthy of submitting your website too. DMOZ, Best of the Web and the Yahoo! Directory are just a few.
Get Involved in Forum Discussions
Are you regularly involved in on-topic discussions on the web? Do you participate regularly in popular forums? If so, put a link to your website in your signature, possible promote your latest blog article, if people respect your comments you may find that they start linking to your articles when making statements of their own.
Go Social
Do you have a service or product that people enjoy and like to talk about? Create a social buzz (and a few links) but create social ‘fan’ pages. Create a company page on Facebook and MySpace, create accounts in Digg and del.icio.us. Start to create a ‘face’ to your organisation by networking with individuals online, you never know when these new contacts may start to create links to your content.
