Heatmap analytics are usually accessible only to those who can afford sophisticated analytics software; limiting those with low budgets to a handful of under par alternatives. Here to raise the bar and buck that trend is CrazyEgg; a low cost usability and analytics tool that can be used to track and measure user activity on your site.

Good reporting and analytical tools are undeniably brilliant. Usually though, if you’re looking for a good analytical tool to assist and support online marketing activities and site usability, you can end up spending considerable sums of money on sophisticated tools such as Omniture.

For those with fewer budgets to spend on analytics, low cost solutions can be an excellent addition to the toolbox…

What is CrazyEgg?

CrazyEgg has developed a tidy analytics tool that allows website owners the ability to determine what areas of a website the visitors find most interesting. The information is best displayed visually as a ‘heat map’.

CrazyEgg

Like a lot of great ideas, the concept of CrazyEgg is simple - show the hotspots where users click on in a site.

This information is not the same as Google Analytics’ “popular pages” reports. It is practical information about how and where users click on your website. More importantly, CrazyEgg's approach lets you understand the difference between where you want your users to click and where they are actually clicking.

Fill Analytics Gap

Google Analytics is undeniably brilliant as a free tool but it does have limitations. Navigation path reporting is somewhat flat and restricted making it more difficult to extract the information.

In contrast, CrazyEgg is focused on giving you insight as to how people use a site. It’s a low cost tool that can be used to plug the gaps that Google leaves behind and should be considered as an excellent addition to a web marketer’s toolbox.
