Do you know what your visitors are doing when they land on your site? Do you know what pages are letting your site down? If not, Neil M Hancock introduces you to Google Analytics, and how to use it to its full potential.

Welcome to the prequel to the first instalment of the ‘Google Analytics, How to…’ series, I thought it might be useful to initially introduce Google Analytics to those that do not even know what it is and what I can do.

So who, or what is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a free website tracking program which is simple to install on your website and gives you accurate and in-depth information about your visitors, where they came from, what they are doing on your site and what page they are leaving from. It also provides accurate goal conversion rates, so you can analyse how successful different marketing campaigns were.

How do I create a Google Analytics account?

To create a Google Analytics account you need to read the first instalment of my ‘Google Analytics, how to’ series, titled ‘How to set up and create a Google Analytics account’. It’s a very simple walkthrough on how to create a Google account and then how to install the Google Analytics code onto your website. Please return for regular updates and tips on how to maximise your Google Analytics account, including how to add traffic filtering, set up goal conversions and create automated monthly reports.
