Google Analytics 'can highlight' short term SEO improvements

Wednesday 21 October 2009

Google's Analytics service has been praised by an industry expert for its ability to emphasise short-term improvements in search engine optimisation (SEO) strategies.

Writing on the Econsultancy blog, Ran Nir noted that the programme can indicate the total number of keywords a company is ranking for, suggesting that it could be beneficial to exclude brand keywords so as to report on them separately.

Furthermore, it was observed that the use of Google Merchant allows sites to list products within search results and that creating a filter to highlight the traffic from this source could prove useful.

Mr Ran also stated that improvements may also be seen in the number of web properties linking to businesses' sites, as well as driving traffic through using Google Analytics.

However, Tal Schwartz of ClickTale recently remarked that the service has limitations, particularly regarding the calculation of how much time users spend on internet pages.
