Search engine optimisation 'is a good investment'
Tuesday 27 October 2009
New companies are increasingly turning to
search engine optimisation (
SEO) as a promotional tool because it can offer a good return on investment (ROI).
This is the opinion of Sam Tilston, online marketing director for Zoombits.co.uk - a mail order company based in the Channel Islands - who observed that, as traffic is essential for online retailers wishing to sell products, using search engines is equally important as it remains the main way to entice customers.
He noted that by employing strategies such as paid search, companies are spending money for every bit of business they are receiving, which he said was similar to "renting the traffic".
With
SEO, "you're investing up front for a longer term", Mr Tilston remarked, but in over time, "you're going to have those positions and you're going to get the constant flow of traffic".
His comments come in response to a survey by Econsultancy and Guava, which revealed that 48 per cent of respondents have reported an increase in ROI from
SEO.
